Olden days and the evolution of furniture

Somewhat along the lines of various other wonderful discoveries such as the wheel would have been furniture. Rocks are not known to be the most comfortable of locations to relax on provoked the evolution of furniture. The journey to using wrought iron in wrought iron furniture had begun.

During early civilisations rock was applied to create new furnishings but it may have been much more comfortable than a raw rock.  There is evidence of the use of stone to build even cupboards and beds.A lot of important progress in furniture design was made in Greece. Furniture was made from wood and metals such as oak and bronze and iron.  Wooden furniture was often embellished with the inlaying of gold, silver and ivory.  Beds were particular objects for embellishing epitomised during the 17th century Renaissance period where beds were even embroidered with pearls ,with iron beds and iron sculptures not uncommon.

Obviously as today the price of raw material would dictate the use of a particular ingredient.  But whilst wood can be expensive different types of wood have different costs.

The use of wrought iron in the production process of furnishings can be traced back to Roman times.  The metal wrought iron is an alloy made up of a little carbon and grew to become a quite popular material for the manufacture of things from tables to towers.  The phrase wrought suggests that it has been worked on and the properties of iron enable a craftsman to twist and forge the metal into gorgeous forms whilst having the great strength of  a metal to make sure robust furniture which lasts many lifetimes and additionally that is gratifying to the eye.

it is surprising how well iron can be modified into art forms including iron sculpture. The completed features feasible on iron furniture like the legs and head boards of an iron bed are down the malleable dynamics of wrought iron.
