Do People Really Care About the Size of a Laptop?

The question in mobile computing has become, “Does physical size really matter or is it more important to have a computing machine that allows you to fit all your productivity software and save as many songs as will fit on your computer?” Another issue may be whether the smaller sizes are more valuable or if the light-weight portability is the focal concern. I think the accessibility of different types of portable computers now lets us truly personalize our productivity machines into something that works for us today and doesn’t always have to be standard for us all.

The announcement of the new macbookair by Apple has really given us options with the size and weight and what kind of mobile computing device we carry around with us everyday. At less than 3 pounds and wafer thin, we don’t have to strain our shoulders every time we walk to class. It has a 13 inch wide-screen and a normal keyboard. Tell me where I can get it today! This is the very aspect I have been wanting.

When I first previewed the pitch for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to carry computer coming out of that manila envelope, I was just shocked. Now, that’s the choice I’ve been searching for. Now it doesn’t have to be a major undertaking to take my laptop with me any longer! No extra bag that can weigh likely as much as the laptop computer, no more heavy lifting, no longer taking up so much extra room! What a joy!

The never ending question of whether size is important is here now and my answer, when it comes to a tiny laptop is a booming, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter and so does weight. For me and my computer smaller is as good as it gets.
